If you’re planning a trip to Pitlochry this summer, then Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre is worth a visit.

Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre was built in 2017 and offers a modern visitor experience to the dam, which was built in 1951.  The area was one of the first regions in Scotland to be developed for hydro-electricity. It’s two turbines support the energy needs of 15,000 homes each year.

It’s an excellent attraction that makes learning fun with many interactive tools and exhibits.  Visitors can learn all about the history of hydro-electricity in the North of Scotland and see - in a fun way - how it has evolved over the years and transformed our lives for the better.

What to expect at The Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre:

The centre is set in the ideal spot, with great views over Pitlochry Dam. There’s easy access to the Dam, for those who fancy a short walk across to see it in action and do a bit of salmon spotting in the fish ladder at the other side.

Visitors can enjoy a bite to eat in the café, overlooking the dam. There are lots of “quick fact” graphics displayed throughout the centre to inform visitors of the history around them; there’s an audio-visual room where visitors can sit back and learn more about the heritage of Pitlochry Dam and Power Station.  Electrical artefacts are viewed through a glass cabinet for all to see - a reminder of how we got to where we are today - and there’s some super interactive exhibits for kids (of all ages!) to enjoy.
